Historic German aerospace engineer WERNHER VON BRAUN typed letter, in German, dated May 11th 1961 on scarce, early NASA letterhead from the George C. One week earlier Freedom 7 launched with Alan Shepard onboard, he had become the first American in Space.

The success of Freedom 7 was a massive achievement for Von Braun having designed the rocket that successfully put Americans in Space. Braun thanks a reporter for her congratulations on Alan Shepard's successful flight! Letters from Von Braun on early NASA letterhead are quite scarce.
