" writes to his daughter from Israel, offering familial advice and signing "Dad. Autograph Letter signed: "Dad", 1 page, 8½x11. Included is the original mailing envelope. " With his lifelong friend Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, and Charles "Lucky" Luciano, he forged alliances of local mob bosses into a national crime syndicate commonly called "Murder, Inc. He built a gambling empire which stretched from Miami to Las Vegas, and included Cuba. Gamblers always felt safe in Lansky casinos, which were free of violence and never cheated customers.

During World War II Lansky, who had earlier used his toughs to break up pro-Nazi rallies, supplied information to the Office of Naval Intelligence. The Cuban revolution was a disaster for Lansky, who lost most of his assets in Castro's takeover. Biographers still debate whether Lansky was now impoverished, or merely hiding his wealth skillfully. In 1970, Lansky fled the US ahead of prosecution.

On September 11, 1972, however, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that those with criminal pasts were not eligible for Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return, and he was deported to the US. Prosecution failed, however, with a jury acquitting Lansky in 1974. He lived his remaining years quietly in Miami. S andra was Lansky's daughter, married to Vince Lombardo. "Ted" was Lansky's wife Thelma.

Her testimony providing an alibi for her husband was believed by the jury at his trial. " Uncle Jack" was Lansky's brother Jacob, who had managed Lansky's casino in Havana.
