Frank Baum's Mother Goose in Prose (1897). His illustrations appeared in many popular magazines, including Life and Collier's.

His work livened up many product advertisements. In the 1920s, Parrish turned away from commercial art to focus on his paintings, one distinctive motif being nude figures in fantastic landscapes.

From the 1930s he focused on landscape art. Parrish was a representational artist at a time when his style of work was out of favor with critics (though much admired by the public). He was also famous for his use of bold colors, including what came to be called Parrish blue. Tackhead-size stains touch 2 words of writing.
