Soiled, creased, lightly stained, slight separation of flap, flap torn on verso. Lister served as the chair of clinical surgery at Kings College from 1877 until his retirement from surgical practice in 1893, just four years after this letter was written. He had been created a Baronet in 1883, and was named Baron Lister of Lyme Regis in 1897 as a result of his contributions to the medical profession.
