San Martin was a South American freedom fighter celebrated for his role in liberating Argentina, Chile, and Peru from the Spanish. A letter signed Jose de Sn. Martin and written in another hand. San Martin wrote in Spanish to Supreme Director of Chile Bernardo O'Higgins concerning military organization.

In 1817, San Martin and O'Higgins were working to expel the Spanish from Chile and Peru. It is in fine condition with an ink blemish near the signature that does not actually affect it.
