SEDDON Seddon handwrote, signed and dated this letter from the U. House of Representatives in 1846 to inform a man that he couldn't recommend his son for admission to West Point Autograph letter signed: "James A Seddon" as congressman from Virginia, 2 pages, 7¾x9¾, (1 sheet folded, front and verso).
House of Representatives, Washington, DC, 1846 Feb. Seddon wrote Brown in this letter that he couldn't recommend Brown's son for admission to West Point and instead was recommending Robert Johnson of Richmond, Virginia. He lists his reasons in this letter. He was a member of the Peace Convention held in Washington, D.In February 1861, in an effort to prevent the impending American Civil War. After the fall of Richmond, Seddon was arrested on May 23, 1865 and imprisoned with other Confederate officials at Fort Pulaski, near Savannah, Georgia. He was released on November 23, 1865.
