GIACOMO PUCCINI 1898 letter to Puccini's "dear and illustrious teacher, " thanking him for his kind statements Autograph letter signed "Giacomo Puccini", 2 pages, 5x5½.
Translated as follows: Dear and illustrious teacher The delicate and flattering statements which you have been so kind as to address to me in this memorable moment of my artistic, have moved me deeply. My heart will preserve forever this precious memory - Please be assured, dear Teacher, of my highest consideration. "Dear and illustrious teacher" was possibly Antonio Bazzini, violinist, or Amilcare Ponchielli, opera composer and creator of La Gioconda , whom Puccini studied under at the Milan Conservatory. In January 1919, six months before he wrote this letter, another of his operas, Trittico, had debuted in Rome, after first being staged in New York in December 1918.
Puccini and his family lived at Torre Del Lago until 1921, and the home became a museum after the death of Puccini's wife in 1930. Letter is folded in half horizontally. See more material from these signers.
