EDOUARD (JEAN) VUILLARD - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 02/12/1917 - HFSID 40253. ALS: " E Vuillard ", 1p, 4¼x6¼. No place, 1917 February 12. Addressed by Vuillard on verso.
In full: Your message reaches me with some delay, at Gerard Mer, where I have come to see some soldiers. It awakens my remorses not to have answered your first Alarm. I was busy with my departure's impediments and then I was overtaken by a horrible, unforgivable negligence, villainy!
If you have a little friendship for me, you will forgive me. I have nothing, nothing alas to add to this picture of the square. As far as Barcelona, it isn't bad will. And it isn't what I do there that would do what's needed. At my return in about eight days, I will go to see you. With friendship and my best to your wife. Vuillard, with Pierre Bonnard, developed the intimist style of painting. His works include Self-Portrait, Woman Sweeping and Interior.
