CAMILLE SAINT-SAENS - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 05/07/1918 - HFSID 154816. CAMILLE SAINT-SAËNS Handwritten letter from the composer regarding a misunderstanding on the development of his muscles Autograph letter signed: C. 1p, 8¼x10¼, on grid paper with "CSS" embossing in upper left corner. Monte Carlo, March 7, 1918. In French, translated in full: You have misunderstood me.
Indeed have I told you about developing my arms and chest muscles. But what I meant by that was not the exercises sometimes imposed upon children in some remote places. If you were my age, you would have seen, half a century ago, young people doing exercises that were by no means childish. Renowned for his adherence to harmony, form and musical craftsmanship, his most famous works include the symphonic poem Danse Macabre (1873) and the comic symphony Carnival of the Animals (1886). He is also known for the opera Samson and Delilah (1877), and the Second Cello Concerto (1902).
Saint-Saens is one of the most prolific and revered composers in the history of France. Lightly toned, spotted and creased. Pinholes in lower left corner. Folded in quarters and unfolded. Worn and torn along folds.See more material from these signers. See more listings in our MUSIC & PERFORMERS (2,639). Please note that this is an authentically signed item.
